Welcome Note from the Principal

Dear Friends and Future Guardians of Nature,

It is with immense pride and heartfelt warmth that I welcome you to the Zimbabwe Institute of Wildlife Conservation (ZIWC). As the Principal, I am truly honoured to be part of an institution dedicated to the preservation of our unique wildlife and the rich ecosystems that support them.

At ZIWC, we understand that the well-being of our planet and its inhabitants is intricately linked. Our mission goes beyond education; we are committed to instilling a deep sense of responsibility and passion for conservation within each of you. Here, you will not only learn about wildlife management and ecological principles, but you will also discover how to become advocates for the natural world.

Our curriculum is inspired by Zimbabwe’s transformative Education 5.0 philosophy, which encourages us to weave together teaching, research, community engagement, innovation, and industrialization. By embracing this holistic approach, we are preparing you to meet the complex challenges of conservation head-on.

At ZIWC, we prioritize:

  • Education: We provide an enriching learning environment where you are encouraged to think critically and creatively tackle pressing issues in conservation.
  • Research: Engage in meaningful research that not only advances global knowledge but also addresses the unique ecological challenges we face in Zimbabwe.
  • Community Involvement: True conservation is a collaborative effort. We work hand-in-hand with local communities, fostering sustainable practices that benefit both people and wildlife.
  • Innovation: Creativity is at the heart of effective conservation. We encourage you to explore new ideas and solutions that can make a real difference in our world.
  • Linking Academia and Industry: We strive to connect your academic pursuits with practical applications, ensuring that your work has tangible impacts on the ground.

As you navigate our campus and engage with our programs, know that you are embarking on a journey filled with opportunities to learn and grow. Whether you are a prospective student ready to take your first steps, a researcher eager to collaborate, or a visitor curious about our mission, we welcome you with open arms.

Let us come together to nurture our planet and celebrate the incredible biodiversity that surrounds us. Together, we can forge a brighter future for wildlife and humanity alike.

Thank you for being here at the Zimbabwe Institute of Wildlife Conservation(ZIWC). I look forward to witnessing the positive impact you will make.

With warm regards,

Dr Geoffreys Matipano (PhD)
